About Me
Introduction
Hello World, I’m James Atkins. Originally from a small town in Eastern North Carolina, I now live in the Bay Area, CA. I come from a background in manual labor — mainly construction and commercial fishing — but over time, I found myself drawn toward a different kind of building: creating things with code.
Background
I began my education at FTCC in 2019, where a C++ class first sparked my interest in programming. I took that curiosity further by enrolling in Web Development and Computer Programming courses, which opened up a new world for me. Those experiences laid the foundation for what I’m passionate about today — designing and building websites that look good and work well. After taking some time off and moving west, I’m now studying Software Engineering at WGU, working toward launching a career in tech. Lately, I’ve been diving into Data Science topics like MySQL and data visualization, and I’m looking forward to deepening my skills in Python.
Interests
Outside of coding, I’m all about staying active and exploring new places. I love hiking, camping, photography, gaming, traveling, hitting the gym, and I’ve recently picked up golf (jury’s still out on my swing). I’ve traveled all over the U.S., and I think getting out and experiencing new environments is one of the best ways to stay inspired. Whether you’re here to connect, collaborate, or just learn more — welcome!
